California governor vows to reduce output of greenhouse gases

GOV Arnold Schwarzenegger's vow this week to slash greenhouse gas output in California delighted environmentalists,but raised eyebrows among political observers because it seemed to run counter to official Republican views.The governor June 1 signed an executive order committing the state to cut greenhouse gas emissions to 2000 levels by 2010:then cutting them to 1990 levels by 2020.and pulling them down to 80% of 1990 levels by 2050.
