China spot alumina pricescontinued to rally on August 18 on potentialbauxite mine shutdowns in Shanxi province,Shanxi refiner Luneng Jinbei cutting backproduction in August on bauxite concerns,rising aluminum prices, Chalco floating a90,000 mt spot alumina tender and lowsmelter stockpiles of the raw material.The Platts daily China ex-works Shanxispot alumina assessment rose to Yuan2,650/mt ($397/mt) cash on August 18, upYuan 110/mt, or 4.7%, making for a gain ofYuan 180/mt (7.26%) from August 11. Thecurrent price also reflected an increase ofYuan 150/mt from a month ago.
