Shanxi spot alumina price edges up on restocking demand

Singapore—The Platts daily Shanxi spot alu- mina assessment edged up Yuan 10 ($1.44) Thursday to Yuan 2,460/mt ex-works cash, and also reflected a rise of Yuan 10/mt over the last week, but a fall of Yuan 30 from a month ago. Market sentiment was supported at the start of 2020 by restocking demand ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays at the end of January, sources said. Recent transport issues in some northern Chinese cities as well as a slowdown in the unloading of imported alumina cargoes at the ports also added support.
