General Motors buys 11% stake in electric vehicle start-up Nikola

General Motors has bought an 11% stake in electric vehicle start-up Nikola, in a new strategic partnership as the EV race continues to heat up. The companies said Sept. 8 that GM will take a $2 billion equity stake in Nikola and, in turn, will engineer, validate and build the Nikola Badger. The start-up is primarily focused on the truck segment. The Badger is a large pick-up with a combined range of 600 miles [300 electric and 300 fuel cell]. Nikola anticipates saving over $4 billion in battery and powertrain costs over 10 years and over $1 billion in engineering and validation costs
