London—Zimbabwean platinum group metals miner Zimplats has received a force majeure letter from South African parent Impala Platinum about the latter’s offtake agreement, following the announcement of the South African coronavirus lockdown, Zimplats said Thursday. Zimplats, in which Impala Platinum, the world’s third-largest platinum producer, holds an 87% interest, will continue to mine and process ore, it said in a statement. It added that it would supply Impala in accordance with the offtake agreement once the force majeure has been lifted.
