London—Russia-based aluminum producer Rusal may be forced to slow down opera- tions at its largest alumina refinery, Aughin-ish Alumina in Ireland, because of measures taken by the Irish government to combat the spread of coronavirus, the company’s spokesperson said Friday.The spokesperson added that the 1.9 million mt a year refinery on Aughinish Island in the Shannon estuary might even need to prepare to suspend operations should the Irish government instruct everybody to stay at home, making operations impossible.
