USW prepares for contract talks with Alcoa, Arconic in US

The United Steelworkers union is preparing for labor negotiations this spring with US-based aluminum producers Alcoa and Arconic on behalf of about 6,000 workers at a dozen domestic locations, union spokesman Tony Montana said Tuesday. The existing contracts signed in 2016 are set to expire in May, mainly May 15. Michael Millsap, USW District 7 director, said in an interview he plans to start bargaining with Arconic April 29 at the New York-based company’s plant in Lafayette, Indiana. Arconic split from Pittsburgh-based Alcoa in November 2016.
