AkzoNobel, Photanol Building Demo Unit To Prove CO2-to-Chemicals Technology

Delfzijl-AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals and cleantech firm Photanol will build a demonstration plant for the production of chemicals from carbon dioxide (C02) and sunlight at AkzoNobel's site in Delfzijl, the Netherlands (PCN, 22 Sept 2014, p 4). Since 2014, the partners have focused on Photanol's technology, which uses sunlight to directly convert C02 from the atmosphere into raw materials such as acetic acid and butanol. Oxygen is the only by-product of the process.
