Alberta bituminous thermal coal output breaks 12-year high: AER

Houston—Bituminous thermal coal production in Alberta, Canada, jumped above a 12-year high of 1.028 million mt in June, up from 625,723 mt in May and 602,822 mt in the year-ago month, according to data from the Alberta Energy Regulator released Aug. 17. June's figure was the highest in over 12 years, as Coalspur Mines' new Vista thermal coal mine continued to ramp up its output. Production at the Hinton-based mine, which is operated by Bighorn Mining and owned by the Cline Group, rose to 855,821 mt in June, up from 625,723 mt in May and 288,592 mt in June 2019.
