Russian steelmaker Severstal completes BOF upgrade

London—Russian mining and steel company Severstal has completed the upgrade of one of its three basic oxygen furnaces (BOF). Once all three BOFs are reequipped, their combined capacity could increase by 1.5%, the company’s spokeswoman told S&P Global Platts. The upgrade of basic oxygen furnace No. 2 at the Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works (CherMK) in northwest Russia started in the second decade of March and lasted roughly a fortnight.
