London—Deep-sea import prices for Turkish ferrous scrap were stable Tuesday as mills and recyclers again entered a standoff regarding workable levels. S&P Global Platts assessed Turkish imports of premium heavy melting scrap 1/2 (80:20) at $239/mt CFR Tuesday, unchanged on day. One Turkish agent source said a tradable value for US-origin HMS 1/2 (80:20) was not possible below $240/mt CFR. “US suppliers are not accepting these levels [$235-$240/mt CFR] and they are expecting that local US scrap prices will increase, so they are not willing to sell now – but yesterday, some Turkish mills started to ask for some cargoes,” the agent source said.
