EU, Japan, India Q2 pig iron output down a third: Worldsteel

London—Major steel markets including the EU, Japan and India saw pig iron output fall by around a third in the second quarter, after the COVID- 19 pandemic led to a fall in steel orders and disrupted operations. EU output fell 30% to 15.8 million mt, according to World Steel Association data released July 23. Pig iron output in India fell 33% to 12.5 million mt in Q2, while Japan’s output fell 31% to 13.5 million mt.
