Detroit-area steel mills paying up $20/lt for August US scrap

Pittsburgh—Three other steel mills in the Detroit area entered the US scrap market Friday, willing to pay $20/lt higher for August material, after one mill in the region offered up $20/lt on July across-the-board Thursday afternoon. The first mill was heard to have had some early success at the up $20/lt level, but many sources report much of the August buying activity still remains to be done.
