Atlantic met coal prices fell further Friday, with US low-vol and high-vol A paring back in line with weaker premium HCC low-vol spot and futures prices, along with soft spot demand. A lack of deals for loading in the next two months put an emphasis on contract sales, which are starting new terms in April for many buyers. This may be limiting appetite to buy spot, unless spot prices fall further to incentive buyers to switch and reduce lifting of contract tons. The prospect for that may be limited, as many US coals are contracted using spot indices in the pricing formulae.
