Rio Tinto hits upper end of 2018 iron ore shipments guidance

Mining giant Rio Tinto said Friday that a ramp-up of expanded mines and minimal weather events have helped it hit the upper end of its 2018 iron ore shipment guidance and has forecast further growth in the current calendar year. The miner, which is the second largest producer of iron ore in the world, shipped 338.2 million mt of the product last year, topping the 2017 total by 2% and reaching the top of the 330 million mt-340 million mt it had forecast for the year.
