Australian Whitehaven's Jul-Sep coal sales rises; market outlook poor

Sydney—Australian miner Whitehaven Coal ramped up sales of metallurgical coal in the July-September quarter against the backdrop of weaker prices and a deteriorated market outlook, it said in its quarterly operations report Tuesday. The company, Australia's largest independent coal producer, reported that its equity sales of produced metallurgical coal during the quarter was 806,000 mt, which is up 30% year on year and 26% higher than the April-June period, it said.
