N. European coil market headed for mid-May rebound

Activity is expected to pick up in the northern European coil market in the next couple weeks, following months of downstream buyers preferring to rely on their existing inventories, sources said Thursday. Long lead times for mills and sizeable stocks among service centers and stockholders amassed in March led to an impasse in Q2 with neither side needing to blink. But, with import offers still unattractive, end-user demand healthy and the summer slowdown approaching, mills expect activity to pick up.
