Arcelor Mittal price hike drives European coils market higher

The recovery in European steel coils accelerated Aug. 19 as news of further price hike from Arcelor Mittal lured buyers back to the market, sources told S&P Global Platts. The Platts TSI hot-rolled coil index was calculated Aug.19 at Eur423.50/mt ($515.73/mt) ex-works Ruhr, surging Eur10/mt higher day on day. Cold-rolled coil was assessed at Eur515.50/mt ex-works Ruhr, rising Eur4/mt from Aug. 18 and to its highest level since May 26. In Southern Europe, HRC jumped to its highest mark since April 29 and was assessed at Eur421/mt ex- works South Europe, Eur12/mt higher day on day.
