CMC reports lower fiscal Q4, higher fiscal year earnings

Commercial Metals Co. reported lower fiscal Q4 net earnings compared to the year-ago period, but posted higher full-year fiscal 2020 net earnings compared to fiscal 2019, the US steel producer, fabricator and scrap concern said Oct. 15. Steel shipments in the company’s fiscal fourth quarter were flat from the same period a year ago. CMC’s North America segment, which comprises the former Americas Recycling, Americas Mills and Americas Fabrication segments, shipped a total of 1.16 million st of steel in the three-month period ended Aug. 31, flat from 1.16 million st in the year-ago period. Overall, CMC’s North America segment shipped 4.45 million st of steel in the full fiscal year, compared to 4.33 million st shipped over the fiscal year ended Aug. 31, 2019.
