China's NDRC urges industry to achieve steel capacity cuts

China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top economic planningbody, issued steel industry working tasks for 2019 on May 9, urging provinces which havenot yet achieved their 2016-2020 steel capacity elimination targets, to complete theirelimination goals in 2019.China has already achieved its 150 million mt/year steel capacity elimination target by2018, two years ahead of the 2020 deadline. But a few provinces still haven't met theirallocated capacity cut targets, which total around 20 million mt/year.
