A novel scheme based on a dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator (DPMZM) is proposed for angle-of-arrival (AOA) measurement without direction ambiguity. The signals received by two antennas are modulated on the two sub-MZMs of a DPMZM. When the main bias of the DPMZM is properly set, the positive and negative side bands will produce two different phase differences. We can obtain two different power curves and achieve AOA measurement without ambiguity by measuring the power. The phase measurement range of the system is about 330 degrees (the AOA measurement range is 165 degrees) and the measurement error is less than 2.24 degrees (0.68% of the full phase measurement range).
