Hurricane Florence made landfall late Thursday on the North Carolina coast, leaving up to 400,000 people in the Carolinas without power and stopping construction at an LNG liquefaction project at Elba Island, Georgia. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said the storm came ashore near Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, with wind gusts as high as 105 miles per hour and what officials called a “life-threatening storm surge.” State officials said most of the outages are in Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, New Hanover, Pamlico, Pender and Onslow counties near the coast.
