Iraq Nears Deal to Resume Kirkuk Oil Exports

A deal to return an additional 250,000-300,000 barrels per day of Kirkuk oil exports from northern Iraq is expected to be concluded soon, arriving at a time when oil markets are fretting over the supply impact of US sanctions on Iran. The 9 billion barrel Kirkuk field is one of Iraq's largest. But oil exports were halted and production shut in a year ago, after Iraqi security forces seized back control of the disputed land following the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) disastrous independence referendum, which Baghdad strongly opposed.
