Iraqi security forces have retaken control of all the major producing oil fields in Kirkuk province that had been seized by Kurdish peshmerga troops in 2014, with the conflict starting to take its toll on the region’s energy sector. Chevron is considering evacuating all its staff from the Sarta Block north of Erbil, in response to the security threat, while crude exports to the Turkish port of Ceyhan have dropped by around 100,000 b/d since the Iraqi army, advancing alongside Iran-backed factions of the Hashd al-Shaabi Shiite militias, launched its operations to retake Kirkuk early on Monday.
