BP Tests New Deepwater Gulf Play With ’Johanna’ Well

BP has spud a new exploration well in a lightly drilled region of the US Gulf of Mexico where the UK supermajor is believed to be targeting a fresh play concept. The company confirmed to Energy Intelligence that it is drilling ahead on a well called Johanna in DeSoto Canyon on the eastern side of the Gulf. BP is the operator with a 100% stake. If successful, Johanna could be the first of several quick and low-cost wells that support a new floating production system for BP.
