Transocean Eyes Potential for ’Multiple’ 20k Rigs

Offshore rig giant Transocean could potentially build “multiple” deepwater drillships capable of developing high-pressure Lower Tertiary reservoirs based on recent customer interest, its CEO said Tuesday. Speaking at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) this week in Houston, CEO Jeremy Thigpen said “several” customers have expressed interest in a rig similar to the unit contracted to Chevron last year for work in the US Gulf of Mexico (OD Dec.31’18).
