EU Raids Gazprom Subsidiaries

Surprise raids by the European Commis-sion earlier this week on the offices of natur-al gas supply, transmission and storage com-panies suspected of breaching antitrust ruleshave prompted suspicions that Brussels is re-ally targeting Russia’s Gazprom.The raids were on 20 sites in 10 EU mem-bers. The commission did not identify thecompanies or the countries, saying only thatthey were in Central and Eastern Europe,where Gazprom is the major gas supplierand, in the three Baltic states of Estonia,Lithuania and Latvia, has a monopoly.
