As Suriname’s new leadership takes over, international oil companies (IOCs) are keeping a close eye on the country’s burgeoning offshore oil play, hoping it could turn into the next Guyana, even if on a smaller scale. But nearly as important, IOCs are also closely watching developments at Staatsolie, which serves as the country’s national oil company (NOC) and oil sector regulator, as well as key ministries.
