Oxy Leans on CCS to Cut Scope 3 Emissions

Occidental Petroleum is distinguishing itself among the US’ largest independents with net-zero carbon emissions targets across its business lines, but a vast array of unknowns could still prevent the company from realizing its ambitious goals. Oxy is the first major US independent producer to establish a timeline on net-zero emissions from both its operations and products. Last month, the firm announced a 2050 target to zero out CO2 from the combustion of its oil and gas — the so-called “Scope 3” emissions that account for some 85% of the global total (OD Nov.10’20).
