The availability of a cost competitive CCS technology is mandatory to coal fired power industry, toavoid the crowding of power production around a single source/single technology, NG and gasturbine combined cyclesITEA-ENEL conceived Flameless Pressurized Oxy- Combustion (FPOC) for coal since 2006, andhave been developing process and technology engineering, to fully exploit technology potential.FPOC distinguish itself for several capabilities, favourably impacting cost profile, like “flexible fuel”extended to low ranking coals, fast loading with constant control logic from standby (5-7%) to fullload, on top of the highest efficiency among CCS technologies and the best overall emission profile(ashes transformed into vitrified slags).ITEA-ENEL 350 MWe power plant engineering study is concluded. Economics, based oncommercial figures, are now available and represented.The study teaches FPOC is highly innovative, and it calls for solution from OEM designed aroundthe new technology. Numerous improvement looks at hand, further launching FPOC at the top ofthe competition.The case of FPOC solutions, along the transition to near zero emission situation, is here examined;and relevant economics are presented.
