More than 100 years after the start of commercial oil production in 1908, and some three billion barrels of oil later, the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago is positioned to open a new chapter in its history as a strategic energy producer. In 2018, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley ordered the complete restructuring of the national oil company Petrotnn, including exiting its loss-making refining business and handing over the profitable exploration and production operations to a new state-owned company, Heritage Petroleum Company.
