A self-driving test gone horribly wrong has caused industry stakeholders to reflect on the future of autonomous vehicle development. An Uber test vehicle operating in autonomous mode struck and killed 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg in Tempe, Ariz., on the night of March 18. Experts say that to make these vehicles and their testing programs safe, manufacturers, suppliers and regulators need to recognize their limits and respond accordingly.
