Gazprom to Resume Turkmen Gas Imports

Russia has agreed to resume natural gas purchases from Turkmenistan from the start of 2019, three years after halting imports. Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said during a visit to Ashkhabad on Oct. 9 that details had yet to be finalized. The breakthrough follows a visit to Russia by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov on Aug. 15, three days after the five Caspian littoral states signed a convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea. It implies that both sides are moving toward reaching an amicable settlement by the end of this year to a Stockholm arbitration dispute over pricing (NC Sep.6’18).
