Steel plate prices held steady in the United States while buyers assessed the validity of various price-increase announcements during the week of May 18. A trio of plate mills sent out price increase letters during the week - notifications that were not altogether surprising to the market. Service centers reported some restocking in advance of the official increases. Therefore, they had the ability to stand pat for at least a few days after the hike notifications.
