Indonesia ill-prepared to avert oversupply, miners warn

Indonesia is ill-prepared to avert an expected oversupply in the second half of this year, several prominent miners have warned. Competition for market share and commitments for equipment make it unlikely that Indonesia will swiftly rein in output in response to falling demand. The global market faces a “significant oversupply” of around 25 mt if Indonesia does not change course, attendees at the recent Coaltrans Asia conference were told (see earlier story). However, several Indonesian miners feel there is little they can do now.
