Indian Railways coal loading down 16% on year in July

Indian Railways (IR) reported a 16% year on year decline in its July coal loadings, slowed by a three-day coal strike and a monsoon- driven slide in demand. IR’s coal haulage in July was 39.66 mt (1.28 mt/d), down from 47.31 mt (1.53 mt/d) in July last year. June volumes were 39.26 mt (1.31 mt/d). Of the total coal loaded in July, 32.94 mt (1.06 mt/d) of domestic coal was transported, down 16% year on year from 39.10 mt (1.26 mt/d). Imported coal railings fell 18% on the year, to 6.72 mt (0.22 mt/d).
