Australian PCI/semi-soft producers have achieved much-needed cost support from Japanese and Korean steel makers for third quarter contract tonnes with buyers agreeing to smaller discounts relative to prime hard coking coal. The buyers agreed to pay $89.50/t FOB for Australian low volatile PCI in the July-September quarter, 11% lower than the previous quarter (April to June) when the price was set at $101/t FOB. The agreement for the third quarter was reached with supplier Foxleigh, which is one of just a handful of coals capable of setting a benchmark.
