Brazilian steel mills probe market for 2021 met coal supply

Major Brazilian steel mills have started enquiring for 2021 term supplies of metallurgical coal as more blast furnaces come back online and with steel production having improved in July. Tenders for a total of 2-3 mt of coking coal for 2021 could hit the market in the last quarter, trading sources estimate. “With the fall in coking coal prices, most steel makers have already started discussions for next year’s volumes,” a raw material procurement manager from Brazil said.
