Mid-vol coking coal prices up on sharp paper rally

Asian metallurgical coal spot prices in the FOB market were up sharply in the two weeks to 4 September, led by a rally in the paper market this week and a higher priced trade concluded today. The IHS Markit mid-volatile PHCC assessment (MCC2) rose by $5.50 to $107.00/t FOB from $101.50/t FOB on 21 August, prompted by a spot trade today at $107.00-108.00/t FOB for an October cargo with Riverside/Goonyella optionality. The latest trade was some $4 above the last traded cargo of Riverside at $103.00/t FOB earlier this week.
