Limited acid spot demand keeps ceiling on prices

Sulphuric acid prices were broadly steady across the globe this week, as limited spot demand in key import destinations prevented further price increases despite tight availability. Import demand from Chile, the world’s largest acid importer, has slowed after strong purchasing for the first half of the year, with the spot assessment range still $85-95/mt CFR. Prices for spot deals were expected to be towards the upper end of the range or higher if any demand surfaces, due to market tightness, but a deal was reported last week to a large buyer in the $80s/mt CFR for June/July.
