K+S announces Sigmundshall mine closure

Prices of standard MOP were assessed higher in Southeast Asia this week due to higher indications of sales to Thailand, while in other news producer K+S said that it will close its Sigmundshall mine at the end of 2018. There was a lack of spot business to report in Southeast Asia and most discussions were limited to tender negotiations for 2018 shipment to Malaysia and Indonesia. Producers continue to report offers as high as $260-270/mt CFR, and some this week suggested that sales have been made at these levels, though it is understood that buyers may secure tonnage in Malaysia at least as low as $240/mt CFR.
