PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gallery closing method for efficiently carrying out removal of concrete in a gallery, and feeding and compaction of a backfill, and to provide a gallery closing apparatus for use in the method.;SOLUTION: The gallery closing method is carried out for feeding the backfill 3 into the gallery 2 where waste is disposed of and compacting the same, and backfilling the gallery 2. According to the method, concrete covering the natural ground surface G1 of the gallery 2, or the concrete and degraded natural ground are removed by a chipping device 17, and the backfill 3 is fed from a backfill feeding device 16 into a space 12 in the gallery 2, which is defined by a bearing plate 14 and fed with the backfill 3, followed by pressing and compacting the fed backfill 3 by the bearing plate 14. Further a protector 11 for protecting the backfill feeding device 16 and the chipping device 17 is propelled forward in an axial O1 direction of the gallery 2 from the exposed natural ground G1, together with the backfill feeding device 16 and the chipping device 17 while a reaction is maintained by the backfill 3 compacted by the pressure bearing plate 14.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
