PotashCorp/Agrium merger cleared in China

The proposed merger between PoptashCorp and Agrium was conditionally approved by China’s commerce ministry, the companies said November 7. PotashCorp must divest its holdings in fellow potash producers Arab Potash Co., Israel Chemicals Ltd., and Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile SA (SQM) in order for the merger to be cleared in China. Approval for the deal in India was previously given under the same conditions.
