Pakistan proposes jump in fertilizer subsidies

Pakistan’s Ministry of Agriculture has put forward a proposal to increase the country’s kharif fertilizer subsidies paid to farmers and expand the payment to all regions not just Punjab, according to local sources. The April 28 proposal allocates PKR 37 billion ($229 million) for the fertilizer subsidy system and would see the DAP subsidy nearly double to PKR 18,500/t ($115/t) from PKR 10,000/t ($62/t) for the April to September Kharif season.
