CME-Cheniere futures ‘could set price benchmark for US LNG trade’ - experts

Cheniere Energy is developing futures contracts for physical LNG loaded at the Sabine Pass export terminal in Louisiana that could eventually establish a new trading benchmark for spot cargoes leaving the US Gulf Coast for international markets. Global exchange giant CME Group, which agreed to host the contracts, is yet to set a launch date and range for the forward curve. Industry experts told Gas Matters Today that in time, the futures might add flexibility to LNG portfolios and appear in sales and purchase agreements (SPAs).
