摘要

The withdrawal of the US from the Iranian nuclear deal has threatened to derail billions of dollars in foreign investment in the Persian Gulf country, and raised questions over Total’s future in the South Pars 11 (SP11) offshore gas project. Total is yet to reveal its next move amid reports it may quit Iran unless it can secure a waiver from US sanctions, which will come back into force after a 180-day “wind-down period”. The French company signed the SP11 development contract with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) in July 2017, becoming the first western major to invest in the country since sanctions were lifted under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) signed in 2015.
