Lebanon’s ambitious plan to install three floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) along its coast to facilitate a much-needed switch from diesel to gas-fired power generation appears set to run into financial, political and security issues that continue to hinder economic advancement in the country. Beirut tendered for the trio of FSRUs last year. Six of eight groups pre-qualified to participate in the tender last November, but unconfirmed reports emerged last week suggesting the 20 May bidding deadline has been delayed.
