Lebanon’s Ministry of Energy and Water has opened the country’s second offshore licensing round, giving prospective bidders until 31 January 2020 to submit applications for five blocks. Licenses are scheduled to be awarded in April 2020 following negotiations. The ministry, on the advice of the Lebanese Petroleum Administration (LPA), opened up this round to more companies by doing away with a separate pre-qualification round that encumbered an earlier tender. The first round, which was originally launched in 2013, had to be relaunched in 2017 after years of political stalemate and inoperative government in Lebanon.
