Shell and joint venture partner Energy Transfer (ET) have requested a five-year extension to complete the long-delayed conversion of the Lake Charles LNG terminal into a liquefaction facility, spurring sceptics to speculate over the project’s chances of being built. In a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) late last week, Shell said slow progress was due to its 2016 acquisition of BG Group - which previously held an interest in the Lake Charles project - that necessitated a re-evaluation and new agreements.
