Shell farms into Colombian deepwater gas blocks abandoned by Anadarko

Shell has signed a deal with Colombia’s state-owned oil and gas company Ecopetrol to buy a 50% stake in three deep-water gas blocks in the Colombian Caribbean, after previous operator Anadarko divested from the 3 Tcf assets by selling its 50% stake back to Ecopetrol. For Colombia, the deal raises hopes of replenishing its depleting gas reserves and ward off the threat of a looming supply shortage.
